    Hi,
I’m using Finalcut 5 on a Mac G5, don’t know the os off the top of my head but if it’s important, I’ll go find out (it’s not my home computer). Anyway, I’m trying to import footage from a p2 card (the brand new, fancy panasonic hvx 200 :)) into finalcut. So the camera was connected via firewire and showed up as an external drive on the desktop. I tried using the file > import > panasonic p2 option in final cut.. I clicked the (+), found the drive and clicked OK. All the clips showed up in the import window… but when I tried to import (either import all, or just selecting one and import) it gave me an error message that said something to the effect of “the files are corrupt or incomplete”.

It doesn’t make much sense since it’s going directly from the camera, without being modified at all.
I’m wondering if I need a driver… and if so, where can I get it? I’m assuming it’s not that though, since the drive shows up on the desktop.

I’m also wondering if I need to use a powerbook and just insert the p2 card into that, but I have a feeling I’d have the same problem since it just won’t let me import.

I’ve also tried importing the files from a dvd. My camera guy got the drive, and all the files, onto his pc and burned it onto a dvd, but its the importing into finalcut that has been the problem.

We were able to capture the footage using the log and capture window and setting the hvx as a non-controllable device. But there has to be a better way! Especially when I’ve heard such fantastic things about P2 cards and their compatability with FC5.

    Thanks for your help 🙂

You need to be running Mac OS 10.5.3, Quicktime 7.0.3 and FCP 5.0.4. That is the base requirements for P2 card import.

[Shane Ross] “You need to be running Mac OS 10.5.3”

That’s OS 10.4.3. Unless, you privy to some version of Leopard, Shane. 😉

I checked the version of final cut I have and it’s 5.0.1… will check the other numbers too but most likely it’s that. Must upgrade.

    Thanks so much!

Well, turns out it might also be that I’ve been using OS X 10.3.9

    yikes!
I guess P2 cards were not meant for me

I’m not sure if I should make a new thread so I’ll just reply to this one. So, my camera guy put 4 clips on a dvd and gave it to me to try to import (panasonic p2 style). They were all from the p2 card. So I did the same thing I’ve always tried to do. The clips showed up in the import window, and I clicked import all. 2 of them imported, and 2 of them did not (and I got the same error message as before- corrupted or incomplete). And all this with the stats (OS and FCP) that I mentioned above.

Now, I’ve been trying to figure out why 2 of them imported fine and the other 2 did not. The only difference between them is that the two that imported were DV 50, and the two that did not were DV 100 (which apparently is another name for DVCPRO HD according to camera guy)

I’m not sure why these wouldn’t import. I know this is new technology so it’s unknown territory (especially for me.. it’s not my camera). But if anyone has any suggestions for me, let me know! I’m anxious to see how amazing these p2 cards can be.

Did your buddy give you the entire CONTENTS folder and the LASTCLIP.TXT file? In the Contents folder, in the VIDEO folder…are there 4 clips?

Yes and yes. There’s the main folder titled the title of the film (this is what I click on to import when I’m in the panasonic p2 import window). Inside the main folder is lastclip.txt and a CONTENTS folder. Inside the contents folder there are 6 other folders, including “clip” and “video” and everything is as it should be in those (meaning, all the clips have corresponding files in the video folder).
