  • Reformatting AVID FW drive for Mac?

Posted by Chad on February 18, 2006 at 10:26 pm

Was given a Seagate FW drive that was originally used on an Avid. Want to use it for a project on my Mac, but my Mac’s not recognizing it. Thought I could reformat it but it doesn’t see it at all, not in Disk Utility or System Profile.

    Any ideas?

appears it’s only recognizing the drive via USB. Worthless…

Avid on Mac uses standard HFS+ format. On PC it uses standard NTFS. There’s no special Avid format.

If you don’t see a FW device in system profiler, then either its FW port or your FW cable is busted.

If the same cable and port work for another drive then they are not the problem. I would reformat it using any combo that does recognise it and then try it again on the problem port. I would also check to see if there is any firmware update from the drive company or the firewire card company.
