When I have audio waveforms turned on in the timeline viewer preferences, they appear in about 70% of my clips. This happens on two different FCP G5 tower 2.3 Ghz stations, one with 2 gigs of RAM. Once in awhile when I open a clip in the viewer and click the audio tab, I’m not getting a waveform to write, though that’s pretty rare. I called Apple professional support (the kind that cost $800 per year) and asked them about the intermittent waveform in timeline problem and they said, to my huge surprise, that yhea, they know it’s a problem but noone really complains about it. I was told if I’m getting waveforms 70% of the time I’m batting a good average. I then told the guy that I thought this was a pretty fat bug, and he went on to say that it isn’t really a bug because it’s not essential to editing (maybe it’s not essential, but it can be pretty darn convenient for certain kinds of fast trims)! I have three questions. 1) Has anyone else been told this is a standard problem? 2) Does anyone have a solution? and 3) Has anyone gotten such a flaky response from Apple professional support?

    Cheers.

I’ve found that resizing your timeline will “force” the waveforms to redraw. Seems to work for me.
