Titles?
Posted by Dan Phillips on January 31, 2006 at 10:56 pmOK
I am fairly new to Final Cut Pro so tell me if I am missing something. The text features built into Final Cut seem very clunky and hard to use. Am I misssing something. You can’t even create a box and text in the same interface they have to be two separate elements.
Should I just be using livetype?

January 31, 2006 at 11:40 pmYou should be using the TITLE 3D option, under BORIS.

February 1, 2006 at 4:05 amUnfortunately you still can’t do a box and text in Title 3D. Presently you do have to go to Live Type or Motion to do this.

February 1, 2006 at 3:09 pmInstead of starting a new post, let me add a problem I encountered yesterday, relative to the Title tool…
I made two titles with Title 3D, and moved them slightly on screen using the motion effects. One was getting larger, the other smaller. however, they were not doing this smoothly. There was a small, yet very perceptible vertical offset of each title as it moved, as if it were throbbing a bit and not interpolating correctly. I redid the titles in the simple Title tool and the problem when away, but this is troubling.
Is there potentially some preference or effect I’ve switched on or off that could cause this?
I’m running FCP 4.5.
Thanks
Ron

February 1, 2006 at 4:31 pmI never thought I would say this, but having just moved over to FCP from Premiere Pro, I’ve found many things that I liked better in Premiere. Text is a biggy…we always use a font called Helvetica Neue and it has many different thicknesses, etc. Premiere was great for handling any font in the computer and any incarnation of the font. By this I mean something other than “plain-italic-bold-bold/italic”. It’s such a pain to have to move out of FCP to some other app just to get the correct thickness of a font.
Here’s some other stuff I liked better in Premiere:
* Speed function
* .wmv export (only 3rd party for FCP, cost me 50 bucks!)
* .wav, .mp3 export (Not even in Soundtrack Pro)
* “Fill Right” and “Fill Left” Premiere audio effects
* Soft focus and glow effects (I think these are Matrox)
* Audio mixer changes global track settings (A1,A2,etc)
* copy/paste to different track on timeline
* Some of the real time effects (althought FCP resolution is much better)And now Premiere Pro 2 has “clip notes” which would make my life so much easier!!!
Overall, I am much happier with the stability of the Mac, but would really like to
see these features in FCP.-Matt

February 2, 2006 at 2:38 amYes, Premiere Pro 2 uses an incarnation of the Inscriber Title Motion app that used to be in Discreet edit*. Once you have worked with it you are spoiled for NLE titling tools forever!! I have been wanting and asking for this titling functionality ever since FCP 1!!
