Having finished a DVCPro50 PAL project in FCP, I am experiering difficulties mastering my sequence to a Panasonic AJ-SD93. Both print to tape and edit to tape gives me all sorts of problems – jumping time code, picture and audio suddenly showing / not showing etc. Anyone running this combo with success (playback/digitizing material to FCP works fine, it’s the other way around that gives me problems)?

The SD 93 is not an edit deck. If you are trying to master to rs-422/SDI or component it won’t work. YOu can do it through firewire and get the weird, not exactly frame accurate record, but you will not be able to get a frame accurate master out to that deck. You can do it print to video and hit play/record manually, but then your timecode is all willy nilly. You need the sd-930 studio VTR to make proper frame acc. masters. The SD93 works just like the aj-1200A in DVCProHD.

We have experienced similar problems when editing to tape via the firewire interface. Starting programs at 1:00:00:00 requires an 8 frame offset on our deck. In addition there are times when the editor and the tape machine do not communicate correctly. We have to set the editor for dv25 output, edit to tape, change the settings back to DV50 and then output the program.

There are times when we use the same work around when capturing video from DV25 and DV 50 tapes.

Donald, that I didn’t understand…are you using the same deck as me…?
    Also, you say:
“We have to set the editor for dv25 output, edit to tape,
change the settings back to DV50 and then output the program.”

    What do you mean excactly?

I also have a DSR-1500P player/recorder and I am aware of the troubles with outputting excact timecode from FCP through firewire. That only requires a simple workaround though.
