  I just cut a video that an executive from my company is going to deliever to show clients in Austrailia
  Here is my problem…
  I know that austrailia is region 4 and I’m pretty sure they run PAL, rather than NTSC.
  Do I need to change export setting in FCP, or do I take care of this in the authoring process so that they will be able to view this DVD on a player there
  ? Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

  Back to you question…..if you are using DVD Studio Pro, or any other package for that matter, you can change the region code when you create the DVD.
  FCP won’t allow you to do anything other that select the countries TV system,ie: PAL, NTSC.

  I agree….the whole region code situation is outdated. We should be able to buy a DVD in say Japan, and play it on a DVD player in the UK,or the US without issue.

  Well in most other countries around the world you can buy an NTSC DVD and it will play in most players. However the other way round usually isn’t the case. Good ol’ NTSC.

  For what it’s worth, Australia is PAL and the last time I duped a whole bunch of DVDs, the guys there told me Code 5 is the most stable and compatible of all the codes. You can set those in DVD studio pro. The last time I used DV footage and exported them as a DVCpro50 codec to be recompressed in DVD studio at a bitrate of between 7.7kbps and 8.0kbps to make the master copy and it worked beautifully.   It’s not NTSC it is the MPAA. They think it adds another difficulty in getting bootlegged DVD’s. They also think they wouldn’t be able to control when DVD’s are released in different regions.

  You can use DVDxCopy (a brilliant program) in other countries to make backup or viewing copies of your DVD’s but the MPAA crushed them out of existance fearing bootlegged copies in the USA.

  Hi from downunder,

  well we used PAL here, region code is 4, and most consummer should be able to play Ntsc just as lond as their TV set Allow it.

  You can make it region code free as well. Just check all the regions in DVDSP if I remember right.
