January 12, 2006 at 3:29 pmA virus works on the operating system level, so the change in microprocessor from IBM Power PC series to Intel won’t affect virus vulnerability.

What the heck does THAT mean? Because Apple is going to Intel they’re more prone to viruses?
I think you really need to go study up on how OS and Interet operability work because that’s a very un-informed statement you made. Intel chips + Apple OS does not = virus vulnerability.
Back to the original question, the Apple app Rosetta will allow most all currently running Mac applications to work with Intel chip. Most, but not all.
You will need to check the websites of all your apps to find out about their operability on the new machines. This is the same scenario we all went through with the OS 9 to OS 10 changeover. Not really a big deal, you just need to do your homework.

January 12, 2006 at 3:58 pmIt might be helpful to actually read the info posted at Apple.com. That’s about the only info anyone at this point actually knows. The roadmap and implications for ProApps users are pretty clearly spelled out. Everything else is purely speculation.

That’s the best advice for everyone in all things Intel right now.

January 12, 2006 at 4:31 pmHaving watched the keynote, Steve pointed out that all of us pro users of Apple products will be offered the universal versions if we send our discs back in and pay Apple $49. So for Studio owners I’m not sure if that’s $49 per app (probably) or what.

The Apple page seems pretty clear to me:
Ed>>>Most of the applications that come on your Intel-based Mac are Universal applications, designed for screaming performance with the Intel Core Duo. That includes Mac OS X, iLife
