  Exporting Uncompressed

  I have a workflow where I export via Quicktime Conversion from FCP5 at Uncompressed 8-bit (to import into After Effects).

  So, I place IN and OUT in the TL, select Export Using Quicktime Conversion. I then select Options, then Settings and chose Uncompressed 8-bit from the drop down box. Here’s the question:

  Why does it then say “Quality: Medium” in the little dilogue box there?

  This is confusing, as I require the highest settings…

  Export at the native rate you are editing in…use Quicktime Movie, sequence settings, NOT quicktime Conversion. Even if you export uncompressed, you are compressing the footage. Only a QT Movie, self contained will add no further compression.

  Thanks Shane. What if I select NONE as my “codec”? Is that an equivalent method (the large file size doesn’t matter to me as they are small clips)

  No. NONE is a codec. Only exporting with as a QT movie with the sequence settings is a true lossless way of doing it.
