Please excuse my ignorance on these matters as I am new to FCP and my english is not so good.. I am editing a project in the new year that is to be shot on HDV (dont know the model of camera as yet). I was hoping to edit this on my own computer but would like to check that I have the right spec in order to do this. I have been getting conflicting information about this and, although I have searched through the archives of CC, I only seem to be able to find half the answers to my questions.

At the moment my spec is as follows:

    1 GHz Power G4 Titanium
    768 MB SDRAM

I need to upgrade to FCP5 from 4.5 which is no problem. I also need to get more RAM. I presume I will have to update this to 2GB of RAM. There will also be a hefty external drive for storing the rushes.

Is this going to be enough oomph for editing HDV footage? Some people talk of a graphics card but others say no.

    Any advice would very appreciated.

Have you thought of looking the specs up on the FCP pages at apple.com? I’m pretty sure those specs are posted there.

No…… I have a dual 1 gig Titanium system in the other room and it will not even look at. You’ll need a fast system to capture since HDV is very processor intensive.
