November 7, 2006 at 4:55 pmPhotoshop layers in 3d space with a 3d camera — some clever corner drop shadow compositing too —
Film clutter burnt or multiplied over the animation. That is actually easy to do. The bulk of the work is having the PSD’s look good.

November 7, 2006 at 5:00 pmIt was probably done in AE just because it’s the most popular, but could be done in any app with 3D space. If you search the archive here the last few years for “Kid stays in the picture” you’ll see lots of discussion about it. The best use of it I saw was in 2002 with the images of 9/11. But the effect has been used long before that, sometimes seamlessly for movie VFX in programs like Nuke.

i am not a video guy. I am a photographer looking for a new way to present pictures in 3D , something different then 2D slideshows. I know a little bit of After effects. If you tell me its made in AE , I will try to cut some psd in photoshop and animate in AE . -

November 7, 2006 at 5:26 pmI’m in your same shoes. I’m a photographer and animator — just think of it as popping off layers and stamping/healing behind the images. Use depth of field also, makes it look more realistic. Color correcting is crucial also so you can use elements from different photographs.
And Chris is right — Nuke/Shake/Combustion/Smoke/Nitris DS/blah blah blah all have 3d capabilities. Maybe it was AE — maybe it wasn’t. But the look is DEFINATELY ACHIEVABLE in AE. Think of it as peices of paper in a 3d world.
