Need assistance with FCP and a Window Media File
Posted by Phil on December 5, 2005 at 2:23 pmHello,
How do I get a Windows Media Video file to work in FCP 4.1.1 on a G4 dual 867mhz.
Do I have to convert it to a QuickTime file? How would I do this?
Thanks

December 5, 2005 at 2:39 pmNow there might be an easier way to do this so anyone correct me if I am wrong, but you can bring the windows media file into a PC based editing program and from there convert to a quicktime or an avi. Once converted FCP should support the quikctime or the avi in. Good luck.

December 5, 2005 at 2:55 pmMerely converting to AVI on a PC might not do the job. You must use a codec that is present on both the PC and the Macintosh.
There are some expensive Mac tools that will do the job for you but the easiest way and cheapest is to contact whoever created the file and ask them to give it to you in a better, more conventional format. Like tape.Search the forum for advice on Flip4Mac and PopWire.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

December 5, 2005 at 6:28 pmYou can use MPEG Streamclip to open it and choose Export to Quicktime from the File Menu (don’t forget to adjust the compression setting you want for the file, dimensions, and the frame rate).
You can download it from Version Tracker:
