Does the deck stop after 40 minutes when just recording from an analog input?

If not, I’d “trash the preferences” in iMovie and try again.

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/

This is one tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

    Whoops!

The software link to the Apple Scripts I gave won’t help with iMovie.

You would have to MANUALLY trash the iMovie preferences.

Just a thought but in DV Cam mode you can only record 40 or so minutes on a 60 min DV tape.

    I could be wrong….

[ric Christoferson] “in DV Cam mode you can only record 40 or so minutes on a 60 min DV tape.

    You are not wrong.

But I was assuming that the OP was using a full-sized (or extended length mini) DV Cam tape.

    If not…
