Probably a crazy idea, but can masters be stored on a Tivo?
I mean, can I transport broadcast masters on a Tivo? I would guess there is compression that degrades quality.

I guess the matter of transporting digital quality masters to 100 stations has taken it’s toll on my good sense. Why are TV stations so vested in old technology?

It’s called “amortization of investment”… also known as “being a cheapskate”.
While we “tech heads” may thrill to the latest greatest technology, those actually trying to make money in this business are less impressed by what’s new and more partial to the tried and true.

I worked at a station that used a bank of TIVOs as moving framestores. Great for “coming up next” or “please stand by”. Better than an old still Cyron.

Good idea.
“Animated” (moving) “slides” for a TV station is a perfect use for this technology.
At the highest quality setting, TiVo’s image is amazing, and you’d have HOURS of space on the drives.
And, the price is virtually “FREE” compared to the ridiculous prices broadcast tech companies charge for something like a “real” still-store or CG.Call up the TiVo menu (I’m sure every entry says “Manual Recording”) and choose by the “time-stamp” (I’m guessing) and you can be playing any clip within a couple of seconds.
But, no, for PROGRAM MASTERING STORAGE, I would not recommend TiVo.
