    Hello,

I’ve just added a second internal 500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA2 7200 16MB HDD to my Dual 2Ghz G5, however it failed to mount after starting up the system. I took the drive back to the supplier who confirmed it wasn’t faulty i.e. it mounted on a PC. I’ve since found out from a response to my post earlier (thanks Nick) that these drives and others are more than likely incompatible. Check out: https://www.xlr8yourmac.com. It would seem that… and now I’m quoting: “the new Seagate SATA 500G comes in 2 versions – one with SSC enabled, one without SSC. Users want to get the non-SSC version of the drive.”

Now don’t ask me what SSC is, I know not, all I want to know is how would I find out which model of Seagate is the non-SSC version. I buy my drives & peripherals from a PC supplier and I’m sure they wouldn’t have a clue about such things. Or failing that which specific drive should I get for the the secondary mounting? I went for the Seagate initially because of the size (500GB), price (250 quid-sterling), buffer size (16mb), and warranty (5 years).

Thanks in advance for any help

    Jerry,

Yes I’ve just emailed them with pretty much the same post, so I’ll wait for their response, meanwhile I may just swop it for an external firewire?

    Cheers

    Hi,

Some models of Hitachi have SSC turned on also. Barefeats has a list of model numbers.

    Best Wishes,
