    Hello,

Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but I am new to both final cut and macs, so I am totally lost on this one.

A client just gave me some footage on mini dvd discs. The discs are made from the camera itself, and they contain mpg2 video.. I need to capture that footage for a project that is due next week, and I have no idea on how to do it…

Most of the footage is on this format, and I just wish there was a simple way to convert them to .mov files.. its ok if it gets a little compression on the way to final cut btw..

any help or advice is highly appreciated

    thanks

You could transfer the dvds to dv and then import the dv footage through any dv deck/camera.

You could use mpeg streamclip to convert them in software to quicktime.

It’s free and does a dandy job.

    good luck and happy encoding.

Or, do what I do. Plug a DVD player into my camera. Plug the camera into the computer through firewire. In the capture settings, use NON-CONTROLLABLE NTSC device and use “capture now.”
