FCP 5.0.3 / BlackMagic Decklink SDI Edit To Tape Issue
Hello all,
I wanted to see if anyone had a suggestion as far as resolving an issue I am having whilst using the Edit To Tape Function in FCP 5.0.3. I have tried all the suggested methods by Apple but nothing so far. When I have completed a project, I select the Edit To Tape function. When it pops up, I go to my bin, select my sequence and drag it over to the Edit To Tape Window. The only option that highlights up is the Insert Edit option. Assemble edit doesn’t do anything (but that is what I want to try to do). So I proceed to use the Insert edit function, the VTR prerolls and then the edit hits. However, when the edit hits on the tape, only the timecode light activates on the VTR and no video or audio is recorded. I am using a Sony DNW-A75 BetaSX VTR with a G5 2.5Ghz DP, 8 Gig RAM, 2TB Storage, Quicktime 7.0.3, Tiger 10.4.2, FCP 5.0.3 and BlackMagic 5.01 Drivers going to a Decklink SDI card.
I have tried everything I can think of, but to no avail. I currently have to use only the Print To Tape function which works, but I would rather be editing to tape. The Blackmagic VTR control apps work perfectly, so i know my RS-422 control is working fine. Any help would be gladly appreciated.

You are blacking a bit of the tape first right, then setting an in point? Which machine are you editing to?

what are your device control settings? (Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings>Device Control Presets tab)
conside also, it may be an issues with the settings on your deck rather than those with your FCP/Declink combo (try Menu>Reset) -

I am editing to a Sony BetaSX DNW-A75 via SDI and RS 422 control from FCP 5.0.3. There is a timecode already on the tape for it to search on. It just won’t lay an edit down. It tries to lay timecode down for whatever reason. Hope that answered what you were requesting. Thanks for the help in advance..

and do not forget to download the 5.1.2 drivers,
you mentioned 5.01.Regards

Good suggestion indeed. Also might post what codec you are using… This is a betacam SX machine?

I have downloaded the 5.1.2 drivers for the Blackmagic card again (I mistyped earlier saying I had 5.0 drivers). Initially the update did not work However, after going in and looking at the device drivers individually.. something happened where there was a mix of 5.1.2 and 5.0 drivers.. The conflict seems to have confused FCP and thus the control was not being given to the deck & blackmagic output. At the moment, things appear to be working. BTW.. I was using Blackmagic 8 Bit Uncompressed Timelines…with BM 8Bit encoded video. And I rechecked the deck and Device control so that they matched up (which they did).
