  Funny occurance to still images in FCP5

  I have 5 still images (TIFF) layered over each other. I have added some soft edges, feathered the edges, and given them some scaled motion.

  Something funny happens to two images. The hairs of the characters (which have some sunshine falling on them), are glittering and have a sort of ‘moving and swaying in the breeze’ effect.

  What’s going on?!

  Also how can I lower the render and preview times for still images?

  I’m going to guess your images are large.

  If you are not going to “zoom-in” on them (motion) in FCP, there is no need
  in DV format to import them any larger than (approx.) 720×480.
  You can downsize them in Photoshop before importing.

  They will render faster at a smaller size.

  If you just want to cut down on the “shimmering”
  (likely due to being too large (too much resolution) for a video image,
  then add the Blur > Gaussian Blur video filter to the images that need it and adjust the blur to between 0.25 and 1.5 per cent.

  You must only judge quality on an external video monitor and never on the computer’s FCP Canvas.

  Turn your Video Processing to Best Quality. Default is “Normal.”
