I posted this on dv.com but didn’t get a response.

There is a popular transition used on TV that looks like the image gets over-exposed and blurs out and dissolved into the next clip. I’ve sort of managed to make this happen in FCP, but by using keyframes. When I save the filters and try to use them later, I have to redo the keyframing, which is the time consuming part. Is there a better way or maybe a plug-in that can do this. maybe its an Avid transition because I see it ALL the time on major TV commercials.

Not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for, but I’m using a free plugin from Eureka called Vapor Across that overexposes and blooms out the colors while transitioning to the next clip. It does some blurring as well. Might be a bit extreme for what you’re wanting, but I use it a lot for little sports promos and the like I do. Besides, it’s free and a cool plugin so you can’t go wrong pikcing it up, anyway. Forget where I got it, but I’m sure it will come up in a quick search (I think I used versiontracker to get it).

Yeah, I use the ‘vapor across’ transition a lot, too. I’m sure it will start to look dated over time, but for now the clients seem to really like it. And if they’re happy, I’m happy.

Yep…it’s an Avid thing. PAINT EFFECT. We can blur and over expose the image then go back again. But we need to keyframe it too. I have also had luck with Joe’s Filters CHROMA GLOW and a keyframes gaussian blur….

    OR

Look at http://www.nattress.com…the Film Effects filters have a great FILM FLASH that does this.

for doing that I have never been so pleased than with the “EE Camera Flash”

I’ts an AfterEffects plugin out of the “Effects Essential ” Pack from Buena Software that works very nicely with Fcp

Another vote for the magnificent VAPOR! It’s so common where I work they just say. “Vapor it.”
And it’s free! Just be careful using it with 10bit uncompressed with high precision rendering.
You might get some weirdness going on. Works best with DV, 8 Bit uncompressed and 10 Bit
    uncompressed rendered in RGB.
