This started on my home G4, realized it happened on my work G5, and now it happens to every G5 at work.
Can some of you try this with a few different dvds and see if this happens?

This must be from some sort of add on component? Right?!?!? But it is EVERY edit station (about 12).
I dont know what software could cause this….

Same here, but not with every kind of dvd disk. It deppends on formating of dvd/cd itself. We figured out the whole thing got something to do with “RT profiling” during FCP boot.

Im very happy that im not alone here. For a while I thought i was going to go insane about it, but i just ignored the problem until now with it surfacing everywhere. I agree its not every dvd, but after multiple tests and comparing dvd types and crash logs i couldn’t find a consistency.

Considering this last time it happened with a Motion tutorial dvd, THIS IS VERY BAD.

It seems that with some type of discs FCP considers superdrive as one of the media drives capable of capturing and playing back video and therefore it checks its RT capabilities wich ends in kernel panic. Best solution to the problem is simply removing any disks from superdrive during FCP launching…
