Apple HD Displays: 2 x 23
Posted by Sarahxp on October 22, 2005 at 11:27 pmHello all, could you tell me what would be your preference if you had the choice of working on two apple 23

October 23, 2005 at 1:22 amThe two 23″ Apple displays will get you more landscape. And you can always use the other one as the Digital Cinema Preview of your footage (although not good for color correction).
Plus you don’t need a special Video card to drive them. I have 2 monitors (Dells) and love the amount of landscape I have.

First off, that shouldn’t even enter into the equation. The monitors are for you to use, not the client. Use what’s best for you.
Given my druthers, 2 – 23″ displays would be preferrable because ultimately you’ll get more real estate. Although I use a 23 and 17 side by side and just love that set up.

October 23, 2005 at 2:02 amThanks Shane. We are also leaning towards the 2 x 23″ but we paused because of the higher resolution of the 30″. We are doing HD uncompressed. But you are right, and pretty much everyone suggests sticking to the 2 x 23″. Thank you! S.

October 23, 2005 at 4:16 amI work on one system that has 2 23s, and I do find that I lose the cursor frequently. It’s actually quite frustrating. I never thought I’d say there is such a thing as too much real estate, but here I am.
IMHO, one 23″ and one 17″ seems to be the perfect match.

And if you add this coupon
– code after adding it to your bascet it is “only” 779$69$8KC79D53S2H

October 23, 2005 at 12:48 pmThanks for the idea. And can you use this dell with a G5… sounds like a no no. Wonder if Bill Gates knows? :-).
cheers, S.

That’s the whole point of Apple switching to DVI ports for displays. That’s an industry standard interface (as opposed to their ADC port) so you’re now free to use more “off the shelf” equipment with the Mac’s.

Considering he owns part of Apple, I would suppose he’s very happy to see Apple finally go more “mainstream” rather than have everything proprietary.

I have a 23″ Apple display and a 19″ Samsung for my bins and it works perfect. And even then I still lose the cursor sometimes!

October 23, 2005 at 3:41 pmI run two 24″ Dell 2405FPW monitors side by side – they are great and were a real good deal. I just sit about 3 1/2 feet to 4 feet back and make the text size a bit bigger and you can cut away ’til the cows come home.
I don’t lose my curser so much, but I do have two mouses running – a blue tooth one and a nice scrolling supermouse – as well as a bluetooth keyboard with all the colored FCP keys.
I’ve cut on every type of system out there and this one is the best so far and it’s also “my very own”. I love it.
