I too have two Dell 2405 monitors…side by side. DO you find that the color/brightness of them just don’t quite match? I have to have one connected via an ADC/DVI converter, and I think that is changing the signal somewhat. I have matching settings in the DISPLAYS calibration I performed.

We’ve got a 30 and a 23 and I frequently lose the cursor! However the 30″ is great for Combustion as you can get a HD full frame as well as the toolset.

If it was my choice, I’d get 2 x 23″

Yeah mineare not quite identical and I have the same settings. I just tweaked one of them manually to get them as close as possible. I always thought it was the card and connector that made the difference.

I’ve considered this same delema. The 30″‘s are sure amazing. After watching some halloween style spooky movies being promoted down at the video store I was struck by a terrible horrific thought, what if…… you were using your favorite mic for v/o work and the boomstand got knocked over and it struck your monitor and cracked the lcd! …. or the cleaning lady backed into it with her mop handle and it cracked the lcd!!!

The morrow of the nightmere is – only one would be disabled if you’d bought the 2- 23″ers and the repair cost would be 1/2.

I went for the 2 – 23″ers but I still have nightmeres but only when I’m not using them.

Wow – I used to use 2 17″ displays and thought that was a lot of space.

Most of the time desk space is an issue for me, so I just use 1 x 23″ display and (obviously) an SDI monitor. If you don’t have a huge bin and don’t use thumbnails in it, I often don’t often see the need for more space. Both canvas and viewer are a good size, I can get the timeline how I want it, and I can always find the cursor… All my colour/fx work is viewed on the external video monitor anyway.

I know this is all personal preference – But I feel confident that in 2 years we will have a thread titled “2 x 42″ displays vs 1 x 50″ display”.

I always thought the best thing about FCP was that you only needed a few windows open all the time. Still, if it were me, I’d go for the 2 x 23″ (which I use at the office) as you can use the second 23″ for pixel-per-pixel HD preview.

    Good luck with the system.
