    Hi

I am looking to buy an Imac for cutting at home using FCP. I am doing alot of animation work which requires a large amount of rendering. I want to buy the best imac system for cutting render time down. (Why imac? I want a cheaper compact system at home and will by a g5 tower later down the line with some other editors.)

So my question is does anybody know how different the renders speeds and preformance will be bewteen the just outdated imac 2 ghz system and the new imac 2.1 ghz system that has a new type of graphics card in it?

Thats is compareing a imac 2 ghz system with 2 gig of ram in it
and the new imac 2.1ghz system with the 1.5 gig of ram in it and faster graphics card (cant afford the 2.5 gig option).

I am a little confused as to why the newer one should be faster when it has less ram in it.

    thanking you

Because it’s faster ram. The data can be moved more quickly in and out of the cpu and that translates intogetting more things done per cycle.

I would just make sure to get the 20″ and some f/w storage. The iMac will allow you to cut very well in FCP. It will just be the rendering times that suffer and the amount of RT preview you can get.

You would be so much happier with a tower. You are forced to use unsupported FireWire drives with an iMac. Not good.
