October 18, 2005 at 3:18 pmyes i make sure i render everything—this has been a recent problem i would say the past few weeks. i mean i would have to eject my hard drive (lacie external) turn it off then back on again (about 3 or 4 times) then i would take a chance of dropping frames or not its like taking a gamble. maybe a system problem? thanks for reply.

October 18, 2005 at 4:02 pmYou are using an external FW drive for capture and render scratch?
That’s not really recommended by Apple (although many do use them). How FULL is the drive?

October 18, 2005 at 4:42 pmI heard your not supposed to use your regular internal drive to capture and render, so wouldnt you use your drives just for media?

October 18, 2005 at 6:24 pmYou are “SUPPOSED” to install additional INTERNAL drive(s) so that you don’t use your system drive for Capture and Render.
Yes, (as I said) many FCP editors DO use external FW drives, but they can be problematic (as many also find) due to FW bottleneck (speed) issues.
Another “approved” storage method is to use externaldrives, formatted as a RAID(s) connected via SCSI .

Can you achieve this by partitioning your internal drive?
