    Hey guys,
Im fairly new to using HD with FCP 5. I have a Sony HDV 1080i camera that I want to capture footage off without having to downsample it to DV. Can anyone gimme a hint on what the correct codec is to use so as to avoid the need to down sample……
    thanx in advance!

Ooooo. I had this same issue the other day with the Panasonic 1200HD DVCPRO HD deck.

Go to the VIEW menu and make sure that EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES is selected. Dang it…there is one other one to check too, View>External…playback device or something (sorry, not near an FCP machine). Try that, see what happens.

What format is the footage?, what system to you have? etc etc We really need more details to be able to help.

Make sure your deck/camera has iLink downconvert set to OFF and the tape format is HDV not auto.

Then try HDV PAL 1080i easy setup, capture some material even though you see no picture in the log and capture window and see if it plays back on the timeline.

Go to the VIEW menu and make sure that EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES is selected.

    That one gets ’em everytime.

thanx guys thats was all very helpful!
So I can capture off my camera and I can get a clip onto my timeline that plays fine. Though when I’m capturing it seems that instead of FCP taking me to the log and capture window it brings up a small HDV window that only allows me to name my clip. Then it proceeds to capture my footgae on the fly.

The story so far!!! Thanx guys for the help!
