    I have been asked to do a video presentation for a ficticious global pandemic. They want to have a map of the world and show “outbreak points” over time. If you ever saw the movie “Outbreak” then you’ll know the scene where they show a map of the US that gradually gets more and more red dots on it showing the spread of a contagion. We need to do something similar on a global scale.

    My initial thought was particle playground but I’ve never dealt in the realm of particles before so then I thought maybe an expression would be better. I’m looking for any feedback.

    Basically, we need to show the outbreak starting at T=0 in India with a single point and then at T=x (don’t know how long exactly yet) we need to spots in Asia, Europe, Africa, Austrlia, South America and a couple of spots in North America as being “infected.”

    Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

    I already got the earth part… I just need some help “animating some masks” over it… Can you elaborate on this?

    I think I understand what you are doing and, if I am right, I didn’t explain myself clearly enough — I apologize.

    I’m looking for a way to spread random “dots” of infection over the earth… Doing your method will give me a slowly revealed solid color over the land masses. I’m looking more for like a google maps kind of “pushpins” look where there are multiple points (i.e. pushpins) around the world.

    Does that make more sense?

    Hi

    here is one way:
    >apply the write on effect on a solid(same size as your earth layer)=> Paint style=On Transparent
    >Expression for Brush position

    frame=timeToFrames(t = time + thisComp.displayStartTime, fps = 1.0 / thisComp.frameDuration, isDuration = false);
    period=6;//creates dots every 6. frame
    seed =Math.floor(frame/period)

    seedRandom(seed, 1);
    random([0,0],[thisComp.width,thisComp.height])

    >apply CC Sphere
