  Capturing problems “Problems reading tape”

  Hi guys,

  I have a problem capturing some DV-PAL footage in FCP 5. I’m using a Sony DCR-PC120E camcoder.
  Whenever I try to capture “now”, a clip or a batch, this error occurs after 1-10 seconds.

  “Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. To capture as much of your footage as possible please capture a clip that ends before this segment, and another one that starts right after it.”

  I have two tapes with the same problem. It doesn’t occur on the same timecodes every time, so I’m almost certain that it’s not the tape that is the problem. I’m thinking a setting-issue in FCP. I’ve tried different capture presets and settings, but I’m kinda lost…

  Anybody know what the problem is?

  Not a setting issue don’t think…

  Much more likely a dirty camera, or a tape whose timecode track isn’t up to snuff. You probably can use capture now, and set your device control setting to “non controllable device” and capture the footage, albeit without correct timecode. Or dub the tape via firewire to rebuild a more robust copy.

  I tried the capture now with ‘Non controllable device’ with no succes.
  Is this really the “dumbest” setting that Final Cut can have? I mean the least picky setting where it grabs everything you trow at it?
