final cut 4.5 won’t recognize my video (consumber 16×9 LP footage firewired dubbed to sp)
Help!
Trying to cut some footage for a friend. Problems arise because 1) they shot it in LP (so I had to dub it to sp so I could use it, my main deck is a JVC BRDV3000) 2) also, they shot it in basic camcorder 16×9. The problem is, I cant hear any audio during playback or prevew/capture. The audio meters are responding vigorously. Also FC is telling me that no video is present when I try to capture it. I went back to the original LP footage, using a little canon mini dv camra as the deck adn tried importing it from that source. Same problem. I know that there is audio there because I can hear it through the little camaera’s speaker and I can see the audio meters.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Gear-wise I’m cutting on a 17″ G4 titanium, 1.3 ghz, 1 gig ram.. latest version of tigher and quick time 7..

That is exactly what is supposed to be happening.
The audio is, by default, intentionally MUTED to the Mac’s speaker output during Log and Capture.
So you should normally monitor the audio directly from the camcorder or deck you are using to capture. (It is the preferred method.)
CAUTION:
Many people have reported that noise or “pops” appear in the captured clips if the Mac’s internal audio is left on WHILE capturing… so may want to choose “Off During Capture.”However, there is a way you can turn ON the Mac’s speaker if you really WANT to:

In FCP4x and earlier:Final Cut Pro (menu) > Audio/Video Settings… > Capture Presets (tab)
“Duplicate” the Capture Preset you are now using, when the window opens rename it (I added “MacAudioOn” to the file name).
Click open the “Advanced” button in the Audio section and turn speakers to “ON during Capture.”
The Mac speakers/audio-out will now play Audio during the preview in the Log and Capture window.

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
