    Hi, all,

I need to capture material from Beta SP in an Avid Express Pro (PC) bay and move it via a portable LaCie drive to a FCP computer elsewhere for editing.

Will FCP read DV25 OMFI files? Will the firewire drive be writeable from the Avid and then readable from FCP? Or must everything be captured in the Avid as OMFIs, then exported as quicktimes? Any way to embed timecode?

    Thanks!!

It is a bit time consuming, but less so if you don’t start editing on the Avid and only use it for capture. No you cannot import the OMF files; you will have to export quicktimes. You can stripe the quicktimes and import Avid bins if you use sebsky tools…https://www.dharmafilm.com/sebskytools/

Thanks, Eli. Will Sebsky encode TC in a PC-based Avid?

The biggest issue you’re going to have is that FW drive will need to be formatted so the PC can see it, and FCP doesn’t like that. It needs it’s media drives formatted HFS+, which a PC will not read.

I’ve been using this LaCie drive with my FCP. Could PC-generated quicktimes still be dragged to it, or will it not interface at all with a PC?

If it’s formatted HFS+, the PC will not see it.

If you don’t know, and you’ve been using it successfully as a media drive with FCP, then it probably is formatted HFS+
