I’ve got a AJA Kona card for digitizing from a BetaSP deck. I’m trying to minimize the file sizes on my lo-res footage. I’ve tried the Photo-Jpeg codec, but at full frame size it’s larger than the DV codec, and I don’t want to reduce the frame size for viewing purposes.

I’ve tried using the DV codec, and reducing the quality in the compression settings. It gives me the file size I want; however, I get the red render bar in the timeline, even thought the sequence settings are identical to the capture settings.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Paul

If you are happy with DV as your offline format, you shouldn’t have to render at all using the stock presets for it. Kona 2 to DV, and then using Apple’s or the Kona 2’s DV setting for the sequences… So if this is what you are doing and you still have to render, then trash your preference file for FCP and give it another go.
