Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy HDV to SD DVD

    Hi,

I’ve read a few threads on this topic but can’t seem to find a satisfactory answer. Trying to make a 16:9 SD DVD out of a HDV timeline.

I export with compressor and make it in DVD Studio Pro but always get interlaced/motion problems (strobey stuff??).

I have the field set to top first etc. but no joy. Any definitive advice? I’m working in PAL.

    Thanks in advance,

    Johnny White

    Johnny –

I had this problem as well – What i found was that i needed to do three things to get a qualiy output in SD from HD source.

    1) Set compressor to LOWER field dominance.. i know HDV is upper.. but that setting didnt work for me in compressor 2.. lower worked fine

    2) set the GOP setting to IP. This was more of a tweak which got much better quality (at least for the material i was encoding)

    3) DONT use any VBR setting. use the CBR setting and use as high of a bit rate as you can (in my case i could use 7.5mb/s since i didnt have a very long movie – only 26 mins).

let me know how that works!
