Im trying to get this new Sony HDV deck to preset TC to 58:00:00 so that I can frame accurately edit to tape a sequence..when I preset the TC it sets then I drag my sequence in the edit to tape window, it starts, but the TC on the deck starts at like 00:01:23:00 or somthing like that, it just seems to make up its own timecode….this is driving me nuts…..anyone? FCP 5.0 editing DV that was shot HDV but converted to DV on capture….and trying to dump back as DV to tape. thks

Have you checked to see if in your menu settings that you have TC Make set to Preset? If no, that’s the problem. After that you have to set the timecode on the machine. Firewire will not pass timecode to a Sony DV machine.

Yes, we have set TC Make to Preset, Its weird, we even can stripe the tape and start it at 58:00 but when we try and take that same striped tape, and do a Edit to Tape it starts at past the hour mark and Im not sure where it is getting this other TC from…..is this a bug or am I just going nuts….

What time are you entering into the In field? 58:00:00?

Do you have pre-roll then? You need at least 5 seconds. So you should have black and code striped before 58:00:00, like starting at 57:30:00. Do you have enough black for pre-roll?

Once you’ve striped some tc onto the tape you need to change the tc make setting back to regenerate. then all should be well.

    good luck,
