Posted by Videobiker on August 18, 2005 at 12:22 amSo I have tried everything. Replaced the originl file, re-applied my basic motion(scale and rotation), re-rendered and STILL have these damn speckles!
My timeline is DV, images are high res(aren’t they always?), can anybody give me aany more help? I have done everything tthat Bogiesan mentioned andd nothing has changed.

August 18, 2005 at 12:48 amFCP 5 has a better scaling engine which gets rid of that problem.
If you’re trying to get good results with 4.5, then reduce the resolution of your image in photoshop. If you need a very big resolution to do a big zoom, then you need to reduce detail in your picture (use Dust and scratch filter in PS).
If this fails, then you can try a little blur or the filcker filter, but at this point, you’re better going to After effect… in fact, AE is much better than anything else for pan&zoom. Because of the quality and the toolset.
But be sure to always monitor the result on a monitor and don’t judge with the RT preview… it will always look sharper when you render.

I am using 5.0.2 on a dual proc. G5. I noticed that later in my timeline there are 2 full screen aerial shots….I have the same type of scale and rotaion on them as I do on the stills giving me problems….the difference is that the problem stills are not full screen, they are portrait scans about 540×500. I can’t scale to fit the screen cause I lose detail on the still that I need for the story….It sits over a background layer that I have applied a saphire glow too.
When I scale only there is no problem but when applying the slightest bit of rotation I get the speckles and all kinds of tearing/aliasing along the right edge of my still.
The other shots on the other hand fill the screen and have no problems what so ever. Strange, huh?
I was hoping not to have to go to AE but it looks like I may have to. What about motion? How easy is it to do this in motion, the layering, etc.?
TIA

August 18, 2005 at 2:47 amin your sequence settings: video processing tab, is Quality set to normal or best quality (ie, it’s NOT set to Fast) ?
are you fully rendering? You can’t judge the RT rendering on stills. Make sure the rendering status above your still is light purple-grayish. If not, render.
you didn’t tell me if you were seeing the problem on an external video monitor. This is important.
