Having a problem with still images in FCP 5. When I import a still image, and then animate it (Either with a drop shadow, scaling, rotation, ETC, ) The image looks kind of crappy and the image will get kind of “jumpy” . For example, if I take a 720 x 486 pic, scale it down and have it scale up over a certain period of time with both a scaling and position keyframing, it jjumps p and grows, jumps up and grows . . . Now, my suestion is, do I have some sort of settings set wrong? Am I importing the wrong kind of still with the wrong settings? (square pixels vs. 0.9)? Any advice/guidannce is greatly appreciated.

Are you RENDERING this effect (you need to).
Are you checking for quality only on an EXTERNAL video monitor?

I did indeed rener the animation out, not so sure what you mean about the external monitor bit. I have dual display monitors, and a Sony HRTrinitron for my external monitor, and it looks kind of crappy on both. Also, when put off to tape, it looks kind of crappy too. I am going from the FCP to an AJA Breakout box, is there some sort of issue here?

Check your render settings. I would have to bet that you sequence is set to “Normal”. Try setting it to “Best” or “Fastest”. The motion quality of FCP is lacking very seriously. It was supposed to be better but I think its gotten worse. I constantly have problems with alpha channel logos. Its a flip of the coin to what the settings are.

Yes, I have had the same results a Wayne. Most of the time we find (Fastest) works best. I hope Apple fixes this soooon.

YES! In the Sequence>Settings>Video Processing Tab there I set it to best and it looks SOOOO much better. YOU GUYS ROCK!
