  • Serialization error (Exporting as MPEG2 files)

Posted by Riccardo Zito on August 17, 2005 at 1:52 pm

    Hello all,
I have been trying to export MPEG2. I have the upgraded version of qucktime 7. I also have DVD Studio pro.
When I try export I get the following error message: “Serialization error- DVD Studio Pro must be serialized first in order to run Quicktime MPEG Encoder.”
    Suggestions anyone?
    I greet you thankfully.
    Riccardo

sounds like you haven’t entered your serial number for DVDSP yet. Launch DVDSP and enter the serial number.

Both? There should be only 1 SN for DVDSP. Are you sure that you’ve entered the correct one?

[riccardo zito] “we are talking about the same thing right?”

    Apparently not.

DVDSP has only 1 SN, and when you do an install, you’re only prompted once. What’s the 2nd SN for? QT? FCP?

Sadly, when you upgrade to QT 7, you lose the ability to export MPEG 2 files via QT. They expect you to use DSP or Compressor. I think that error is some weird way of tell you to use compressor instead. but maybe I’m wrong?

The interface is still that of DVDSP.. no mention of any other software QT or anything else.
I am confused. If I open DVDSP it runs just fine.

This is what happened to me. Until now no one has responded to my questions about “where did export to MPEG-2 go?” thanks for confirming this.

Actually I do have the option to export to MPEG 2 from Final Cut.
It just doesnt do it though.
Once I downloaded Quick time 7 (the high quality version i.e. not the free one) It automatically appeared into the export format option of ” File>export>using quick time conversion…”
So in theory you just need to get a quick time version that has the MPEG 2 encoder.. in Theory.. thats where I get stuck though. I get wierd messages about DVD Studio Pro..

OK, I missed that part of your 1st post. I don’t think you can use that workflow with QT7 & DVDSP2. My guess is that DVDSP is looking for QT6. Try encoding your m2v files with Compressor, instead.
