  • ATTO Issues in a DP 1.42 G4 *also Cinewave Serial Adapters

Please help if you have experience with this.
I’m in a bind here as I’m trying to ramp up a Cinewave machine.

I have an ATTO Express SCSI card that works fine in a Dual800 machine
but whenever I install it into my Dual1.42 machine, it crashes (kernel panic)
    during start up.

I’ve called ATTO and followed their suggestions to know avail.

The card is an Apple OEM ATTO PSC model.
It’s been working fine with my MEDEA raid and the Dual 800 box.
If this is a no go, then I’ll need to adapt the HD-68 connection on
the MEDEA RAID to a newer UL2/3S controller’s VHDCI cable.
That being my alternative, will that work?
(wow, almost sound like I know what I’m talking about there)

Also, (since my eBay purchase didn’t come with one) I’m confused on the “TWIN Keyspan USB serial adapter”
that shipped with the Cinewave RT Pro. The only “TWIN” units I’ve found, are of the round variety.
I would make sense to me, that I should be shopping for the 9pin RS-422/232 serial that I’m used to seeing
on the back of a deck.

What additional adapters will I need to have full machine control (UVW Beta Sp etc.)

    Thanks so moooch.

P.S. I’m posting this in several threads as I’m in dire need of assistance. Please forgive.

Have you spoken to Medea at all? the Tech support there is outstanding and they may be able to help out with the SCSI card issue since they obviously have to test their units on all manner of machines and cards.

As for the CineWave serial cable, you need a Mac Serial to RS-422 cable which the last time I found one was at Promax. http://www.promax.com Just FYI, I would look at the Pinnacle website and see what is the last version of Mac OS that was approved for it, I think it was 10.3.4 or 10.3.6 and only run it with FCP 4.0 or 4.5. It’s no longer being supported and most likely will not work in FCP 5.0 or if it does, it may not be reliable.

Good suggestion on talking to MEDEA.
    Just sent them an eMail.

ATTO support suggested using a hd-68 to vhd-68
    cable from http://www.tmcscsi.com. So, apparetly,
this is the way to go.

As far as the Serial Adapter is concerned…
am I missing something here? I find the
    Keyspan TWIN USB/serial adapters everywhere,
but no go on the serial to rs… bummer.

As I said in my first post, contact ProMax for the cable you need to connect to the deck. It’s an Apple Serial to RS-422 cable. I’m not sure if they sell it anymore, but when I got mine two years ago it was $25. It’s a round port on one end (you connect that to Keyspan) and the regular RS-422 on the other end.

You need to call them as they are no listed on the website.

    Walter, thanks for your help.

I was trying to find more data
so I could know what I was talking
    about before calling.

But, Call I did and found what I needed!

    Thank You very much!

BTW: Found a keyspan on eBay $22
& promax has the deck control cable for $24

    I can live with that!
    Get a UL3S and a VHDCI to HD-68 cable and I’m set!
