  • FCP audio renders to mono – bug???

    Hey All,

I have had problems recently when FCP v5.0 renders my audio tracks, they get converted to mono! Unfortunatley it wasn’t until I did an international basketball telecast (Australia v China) that I found the problem and all my audio went to air mono! DOH!!!

After playing around I have figured out that my music, which I extracted from CD was 44.1K 16bit stereo, when FCP rendered it to 48K it all came out mono!

I have seen a couple of threads similar to this on this forum, but I wanted to know if it was a bug (undocumented software feature 🙂 or not.

Perhaps there is a setup somewhere that I don’t know about?

It just seems strange that I have to resample anything off CD to 48K before I use it?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks heaps!

You need to do this in most high-end NLEs.

Avid does it (and it is SLOW) at the time you import from a CD track.

I just automatically convert a CD track to 48 kHz using iTunes BEFORE I drop that new audio file into FCP.
    (and it is FAST!)

That’s the audio file format all high end NLE’s work with. I use Quicktime Pro to export all my music files to 48khz Stereo before bringing them into FCP.

    Hey Again,

I used Avid for a couple of years and never had to resample my audio off CD.
Dunno… perhaps Avid was doing it for me without me knowing, if this is the case, then it would be nice for FCP to do it too.

Still, at least I know how to work around it!

    Thanks for the reply guys,
