  Integrating NTSC material into HD DVCPRO project

  I’m doing an HD DVCPRO (960x720p 24fps) project and will need to cut in some NTSC material. Adding the NTSC clips directly to the FCP sequence and rendering showed bad interlacing and reverse telecine problems, i.e. ‘scan-liney’ torns edges on fast moving objects and jerky motion. What is the best approach? Are there plug-ins for this?

  Check out my Standards Conversion plugin http://www.nattress.com which will do a nice 60i to 24p conversion for you.

  Are you scaling up the NTSC clips from D1 to DVCPRO HD? If so, don’t expect the quality to be great. I think it’s better to downconvert the HD to D1 size.

  Unfortunately, yes. It’s an HD-finish project, with NTSC elements, so sadly I can’t do as you recommend and scale down the HD.
