  • HDV monitoring via firewire

I’m trying to view my HDV sequence by (in theory) running through my Sony HDV deck via firewire, then out to my monitor from the deck via serial digital.

However, i dont seem to have “Firewire” and an option in “Video Playback” – seemingly only Blackmagic options. My AV Settings are, Sequence: HDV-1080i60, Capture: HDV, Device Control: Sony HDV Firewire.

    Any suggestions?

    I’m on a FC5 on a dual 2.3

Shane’s Stock Answer #25 – HDV external Monitor Viewing

To view HDV on an external monitor you are going to need to purchase a capture card, like the ones Decklink offers. They have this to say:

“Blackmagic DeckLink v5.0 includes a host of new features including full support for all the new features in Final Cut Pro HD

I don’t think it is the issue of not enough CPU muscle. I think it is the huge decoding delay on the deck’s side that prevented FW preview.
