I have a very long project with thousands of small clips for created for an art installation. I need to slightly enlarge each clip and nudge it left by a few pixels. Is there any way to automate this in FCP HD in the same way Photoshop might record an action, or can I do this with Automator in OSX Tiger, or is there another solution that will avoid advanced RSI setting in?

    Thanks,

    Mitch

    Hi mitchino

sadly theres no built in automation for FCP, no applescript or Automator support either … you could have a go at creating something that uses FCP’s XML or EDL support but its not for the faint hearted. if you have programmming skills (or access to someone who does) then it may be worth looking into.

perhaps enlarging and nudging one clip, then saving that as a favourite motion might be the answer? (choose Effects > Make Favotite Motion / or press control-F)
you could then select all the other clips in the timeline and apply the same motion to all

check out the manual: vol III, chapter 13, pg 281

    cheers

You can use copy and paste attributes if the enlargements and shifts are identical.

If the adjustments are all the same for all the clips, just edit them into your timeline, adjust the first clip to your liking, copy the attributes (CMD-C), highlight the rest of the clips, (double right facing arrows) and paste (OPTION-V) the motion attributes into the rest of the clips. Fast ‘n easy.

If it’s all of them, then just nest them and then apply the change to the new nest.

Thanks to all. Using a motion favourite worked great.
