Behringer Control Surface
Posted by Jeff Gural on July 30, 2005 at 2:56 amHello, I’ve just purchased the Behringer bcr2000 control surface and cannot get it to work. Anyone have any suggestions? I plugged it into the USB and Final Cut sees that it’s there. I open the mixer….and nothing….
Thanks,
jeff

You need to get the firmware and there’s a little utility you need to instal it. It looks like it’s PC only but it works. Real pain in the ass.
https://www.behringer.com/05_support/bc_download/bc_downloads.cfm?lang=ENG
Here’s the info:
Download the utility, it’s called SysEx, https://members.cox.net/sgrace9/sysex/
Turn on the BCF and make sure it’s in U1 to 4. Launch SysEx, drag the firmware into it’s window. Press the play button in the upper right, the data will transfer. Then turn off and on the BCF holding down the second from the top left button under the knob. “nc c” will be displayed. Press Exit and you’re set. -

I forgot to tell you that after it’s up in FCP you need to go under the tool menu>control surface and click + and you’ll see a Mackie icon which you would select. You do the same thing in Soundtrack only it’s in prefs.
This thing is great, but noisy, and pretty distracting when playing through a sequence with a lot of tracks, I usually turn it off when clients are here.

Thanks, you have saved me from a weekend of stress. It worked like a charm.
Have you played at all in motion with it? I can get it to work but it’s certainly not live updating as it goes. Just curious.
Thanks again,
jeff

No, have not tried it with Motion, I am not using Motion much yet.

August 20, 2005 at 10:44 pmI have the all-knobs BCR2000, too, but I can’t get it to work in FCP as much as I would like to. Behringer Support told me that only the fader-version BCF2000 can be put into Mackie Control mode, not the BCR2000. So I am quite intrigued how you got it to work with FCP.
I, too, have installed the latest firmwares (1.07, then 1.10). But it is clearly not emulating a Mackie Control. I can teach it to move the faders of the first 8 tracks alright, but cannot switch to the next eight tracks or use it for transport controls (play/pause etc.).
What preset do you use with FCP?
Cheers,

Sorry I have the BCF not the BCR. I mis-typed that when I first posted. So I have the one with faders not all knobs.
But I did follow the instructions I was given on the forum and it did work. I can get the faders to control the first eight tracks and the buttons on the bottom right do work as transport control which work just like the jkl keys. The mute buttons also work and the knobs control the pan.
It works pretty well although I wish all the buttons were working. I’m also disappointed in the response times in motion. I expected when I assigned the fader to the spin function that it would respond better. It works, but as you are doing it you get maybe a 1 frame every two seconds playback. I was hoping to do some really organic finer movements. Oh well. Maybe Behringer will release some new drivers in the future.
Good luck,
jeff

August 22, 2005 at 8:14 pmI had the BCF2000 and got it to work with FCP5- though once you write keyframes it’s a paint to write over them – that’s why touch sensitive mackie control (or tascam ) works much better- I returned the Behringer and am buyiong the mackie – though I had a used one in mys systems – great product with TC readout and very responsive jog.
You can progream the behringer in mapping mode and program a button for shut off motor control- that way you can overwrite fades with new ones – a pain but it does work-
To reiterate- the BCF2000 writes brand new keyframes just fine- over a audio that has no keyframes- the problem is when you need to extend a fade- and the motors fight you.

August 30, 2005 at 2:46 pmI was hoping that I had overlooked something. Mmmh, might consider getting a BCF as well. The BCR rocks with Reason and Motion, though 🙂
Anyway, I found out that I can at least control the levels of the first eight tracks with my BCR as well. Can’t get transport controls to work, though. If anyone else owning a BCR2000 is interested, I made my .syx-preset available on my website:
