July 20, 2005 at 1:04 pmYou want to look for the CineWave registration file in your Preferences and trash it. Then re-enter both the Targe Serial Number and the CineWave RT Pro license number exactly.
If these don’t work, contact Pinnacle Tech Support and they should be able to help you out.

July 20, 2005 at 1:06 pmMight post this in the CineWave forum here at the COW… and when you do, Post the exact OS, version of QuickTime, and version of Cinewave drivers you are running.
Most likely the combo you are running is causing the problem.

July 20, 2005 at 1:13 pmI finding any 3rd party software/Hardware, dosnt run consistant on Macs
Having problems with my Larid right now.
The only hardwar/software I found that works well is AJA
I went through the Cini thing last year..
New drivers, new updates, and then you get a new OS, good luck.
Apple stives to use only firewire/and dont want any competion around..
I always found dropping down a OS, or reinstalling Cine is the way to go..
Once you are up and running dont change any software..
I miss the old days when you bought an edit bay and it was good for 5+ years.
Thanks consumerism
Good luck -

July 20, 2005 at 1:25 pmBlackmagic, and Aurora also work well with FCP 5 ( AJA Kona 2 card is a rockin’ too)…. however CineWave development is on it’s way to extinction if it’s not already there… Probably should be setting up a CineWave system on Panther, and only update the OS to what was qualified to work with the last CineWave Driver (proably the last one that was ever and will be ever made). I’ll wager that FCP 5 will be out of the question here with a CineWave system…
Thew, I don’t think that your Laird was ever qualified by Apple to work with FCP… however the rest have been at one point or another..
That said, AJA products work and will always work with Apple products I suspect. Now that Avid owns Pinnacle…. figure CineWave is dead. It was overpriced for a long time, and is really the ultimate cause of it’s demise… 10K for a CineWave HD system, when Blackmagic, and AJA are selling similar cards for a quarter of the price or less? Com’on…

Having problems with my Larid right now.”Not sure if Laird is qualified for FCP, but to say that any 3rd party software / hardware doesn’t run consistent on a Mac is very inaccurate statement at the least. 6 years running Media 100 and now 4 years running FCP with AJA, CineWave, Aurora boards with Adobe, Boris, Sorenson and a bunch of other software works fine. If third party hardware / software did not work consistently with a Mac, I wouldn’t be in business right now.
If you’re having problems with the third party software / hardware, then you don’t have the right setup, you don’t have the proper drivers, you have conflicts in your system, etc…. Work with the third party vendors to determine the correct set up for your system.
[thew] “I miss the old days when you bought an edit bay and it was good for 5+ years.
Thanks consumerism”My CineWave suites were good for 3+ years and I expect my Kona 2 systems to be good for at least that long.

July 20, 2005 at 4:23 pmWhile we are on the subject… there’s nobody twisting your arm to upgrade. i.e. if you have a system that’s working, making money for you, and there’s no compelling need to upgrade, why do it? Shoot, Mac’s run a very long time, and there’s no reason to believe that you couldn’t get an FCP system which is stable and just stay there for YEARS…
Hey, I love FCP 5, and I adore my Kona cards… they always seem to work just fine…

July 20, 2005 at 4:41 pmWalt, sorry but I didnt mean just software, the combination of the 2..
Mostly other hardware setups..
Im was just sick of every time I updated software OS,FCP etc, I would loss function with my exteranl hardware, aka Cinewave
Or have to wait for the 3rd party to come up with an update.
All in all if you like what you have and dont have any problems stick with it..
You just have to aware of different updates and such, a problem you didnt really have to deal with 5 years ago..
Now we have new software coming out evey 3 months it seems.. -

July 20, 2005 at 5:00 pmYa know? It’s because technology is racing faster than ever before… I’ll bet that this isn’t going end any time soon either. But you are absolutely correct about checking out an update here at the COW or in specific forums (like CineWave’s or AJA’s for example) about updates before you run them.. always best to not be the first on your block as it were.

Absolutely. I sat on my FCP Studio boxes for over a month while waiting for some issues to be sorted out before moving up because we were in the middle of a major project. Never want to upgrade when everything’s humming along unless there is a good reason for it.

July 20, 2005 at 6:37 pmHi Gracias
I had exactly the same problem about 9 months ago. My Cinewave started “fudging” its board ID. Everything else worked, but the RT PRO registration would not work because it needs to read the correct board ID. Verified the problem by installing Cinewave in another machine.
Well, I spoke to Pinnacle and the only way to fix it would be to sign up for a year’s tech support for the board, which would enable me to send the board in for repair. The year’s support fee was a lot more than a Decklink Extreme or a Kona LS board, so I kept the cinewave running in non-RT mode, until it packed up completely two months ago.
Now I have one dead Cinewave board, one working Cinewave analogue BOB, two Kona LS and one Decklink Extreme cards…
regards
Francois
