    anyone else seeing these problems??

I have a NTSC standard def project based on quicktimes I created from still image
sequences. The frame sizes are quite large: 2048 x 1536 rendered at 29.97 and then
scaled down in FCP to fit in a normal D1 frame. In FCP 4.5, all I had to do was “render
all” and the whole edited timeline was re-rendered in about 20 minutes (its 5:45 TRT).

In FCP 5, the progress bar creeps along for 15 minutes then disappears without
leaving behind one single chunk of rendered material! However, if I select an individual
clip, or a section of up to 10 clips, they render fine! Any more than about 10 clips, and
I get the same results as before (progress bar, waiting, and nothin.) Changing the codec
to something besideds photoJPEG or uncompressed 8-bit has no efffect. Anyone seen this
    problem?

Also, I notice that on my system if I am playing content from the keyboard from a
sequence, hitting “J” after pausing with “K” will crash it everytime.

    My setup:

Dual G5 2.5, with 2.5 GB ram, Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro card running 5.x driver,
    FCP 5.0.2, and OS X 10.4.2. Content: PhotoJPEG quicktimes running at 18 – 27 mb/sec
but (hopefully) rendered down to 720 x 486 uncompressed 8 bit, or alternatively
    photoJPEG at D1 rez.

    THese are not good symptoms.
I’d suggest you clone your drive and then reinstall FCP. I’ve heard it can be installed right over the exising version but, frankly, I haven’t tried a reinstall.
I’m suggesting you clone your drive just so you’ll have a back up of everything.
I’m suddenly VERY interested in having clones of my system drives.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
