  • Exporting EDL, EDL quits Final Cut and won’t save

I am working with an edit sequence/project that was created in Final Cut 3. While exporting an EDL of 30-minute sequence, Final Cut 3would unexpectedly quit.

So I took the project home to my G4 550 Titanium with Final Cut 4 to do an export of an EDL to see if it worked any better. I simplified the sequences as much as possible, put all video on to one track (except titles, should I discard these?) and put audio on to tracks 1 and 2. When exporting this sequence and I hit save (no matter what the settings are) it closes the save window and doesn’t export the EDL. I have experimented with other sequences from my personal edits, and they all export EDLs just fine.

What kind of things in a sequence would cause FCP to not export some kind of EDL at all?

Maybe if you broke the sequence down into smaller sequences and export smaller EDL’s you’d find the area or media or cut or whatever is causing the problem.? Repair that (maybe a recapture or deletion), then export the whole sequence.
