    Hi,

I am using MPEG COMPOSER on a G5 to record video to then place in final cut. The problem is, the settings in MPEG COMPOSER tell me it is recording it at 720×480, but when i bring it into final cut, it is reading it as 640×480, and is creating these strange black bars on the sides. Does anyone know why this is happening, or what I can do to fix it, so it is actually reading it at the proper size?

    thanks,
    mariootsa

In the Motion Tab, does the scale value say 100%?

It does not, however, it actually tells me the dimensions in the window where all the source files are sitting, and that is the measurement it is giving me. 640×480, not 720, which is what it is supposed to be…

Why aren’t you capturing to Final Cut Pro? If your footage is 640×480, then you’ll need to edit in a 640×480 timeline.

It’s not supposed to be reading as 640, it’s supposed to be 720…that’s my problem. for some reason, my system at work is not set up to record in final cut. we record in mpeg compressor, otherwise the file size is too big. mpeg compressor says it is 720, but final cut reads it as 640…

You can confirm the frame size by opening a clip in Quicktime Movie Player and verifying the frame size there.

i’ve never seen Final Cut Pro “mis-read” a frame size.
