Newbie question
Posted by Chris Jilka on June 16, 2005 at 10:51 pmHi, I’m new to Final Cut, and can’t figure out why sometimes I need to render the video that I’ve captured. Is this common, or have I just not flipped the “whosit” switch?

June 16, 2005 at 11:01 pmI’m sure this is similar to my problem – I’ll close down a project and when reopened, a timeline will show a green line over a section that didn’t previously or doesn’t need rendering. Re-editing the source clip back into the timeline seems to solve the problem. Nonetheless…this obviously isn’t right.

June 16, 2005 at 11:03 pmSequence settings must match the format of the video you are putting in them. i.e. if you capture DV NTSC, the sequence also has to be setup for this… if you use the “easy setups” found in the Final Cut Pro menu, just load DV NTSC if that’s what you are capturing, and you shouldn’t have to ever render clips that were captured as DV NTSC. Clips that aren’t DV NTSC will have to be rendered.

Your Capture Settings and Sequence Settings don’t match. Change your Sequence to match your Capture Settings and all will work in realtime, provided your drives are fast enough.

June 17, 2005 at 12:46 amThanks, I recently changed my settings so I could have device control – so that makes complete sense.

June 17, 2005 at 6:49 amI only see this behavior If the clips were put in a sequence setting that didn’t match it, then after setting the sequence to the same setting as the clips, the clips remain “colored” wrong at the top Sometimes they tun to FUll RT…

June 20, 2005 at 10:34 pmOk, I have all that figured out when I’m rolling in from one source. But what if on the same sequence, I need video from two different sources. As in this case when I’m rolling in some video via AJA component (from a DVC deck), and some video via AJA composite (from a VHS deck). Do I have to choose which I would rather see in real-time?
