Media Managing Anamorphic PAL to NTSC + 4:3 footage
Hey guys. Crazy title for a crazy problem.
I have a rough cut of a documentary show open in Final Cut and i’m doing the online. They shot in DV PAL Anamorphic. But they also shot some footage in PAL 4:3. What the editor did for the 4:3 shots was scale them up to 134% so that they look anamorphic. What would be an efficient way to media manage all this footage into DV NTSC Anamorphic?
Another question: what I accidentally did was media manage the timeline into DV NTSC 4:3. If i selected all the footatge and check boxed ‘anamorphic’, would the footage be fine? No quality loss? Maybe i might’ve had to do this anyways because of the DV PAL 4:3 footage?
Another question, the DV NTSC 4:3 timeline was mostly fine (other than a 25 editing base). One thing that occured was 2 sound effects weren’t linking properly. I transferred the sfx from the offline folder into my online folder and relinked. FCP said something about not enough content, so I said ok anyways since i’m relinking to the ‘same’ file, and FCP ended up clipping the file by about a frame. Not a huge issue, but anybody know why this is happening?
Side question: When I media manage the PAL footage, anyway to tell FCP to convert it to a 29.97 timebase so that I can watch it on my NTSC monitor?

The answer to your side question would be to get the Nattress standards conversion plugin for FCP to covert your PAL to NTSC footage. Works great and is inexpensive.
