  • Has anybody brought m2v files into FCP 5?

We had to render them to be able to use them in an HDV timeline. Does anybody know exactly what FCP 5 does to the m2v files when it renders them? Did we just go through a recompression process and loose a generation?

I want to clarify that these were m2t files that we demuxed into m2v using mpegstreamclip. I am amazed that it is so hard to find any information on getting FCP 5 to work with m2t files when it advertised as being able to work with native hdv files. I finally have seen some posts stating that FCP 5 won’t work on m2t (HDV files that are already downloaded to a drive) but no explanations as to why not, or if there might be a possible fix in the works.

All I have come up with, is that FCP 5 will work on m2t files once they are demuxed into m2v and then rendered after being placed into the timeline. I am concerned about the m2v needing to be rendered. If anybody can shed some light, I’d really appreciate it.
