  Looking for good NTSC monitor around $1000…

  I’m looking to buy a good NTSC monitor for “around” $1000. The JVC TMH-15CGU looks good, any opinions?

  I’m also wondering if anyone has an opinion about the flat screen NTSC monitors vs. the picture tube type models.
  It just “seems” to me that you wouldn’t be able to pick up on little lines buzzing and such on a LCD monitor like you could on the CRT type…
  I’m new at this, but I notice that I can see if thin black lines buzz on my little TV that I use right now for monitoring, and I don’t see that in the playback on my Apple 20″ Cinema display.

  I’m looking into getting a good NTSC monitor so I’ll be confident of what I make is NTSC compatible and not just guessing with my $90 14″ tv.

  Thanks for any help or opinions on this.

  Technically, there’s no such thing as an NTSC LCD monitor. LCDs cannot display interlaced video. What you would see is a line doubled image that has also been scaled to a square pixel format (720×480 would become 640×480). You’re honestly better off buying a $99 CRT television set from Walmart than buying a “pro” LCD monitor for NTSC viewing.

  With HD it’s not so much of an issue, but if you want a real NTSC image you can’t use LCD.

  Hi,

  I would get a Sony instead of a JVC. Here is an excellent monitor at a very good price (used by Sony at a trade show, probably NAB):

  P22 phosphours which are the same color space as SMPTE-C so it is good for color correction.
