Batch Capture
Posted by Todd Carter on June 2, 2005 at 6:30 pmHey, I know this is crazy, but I can’t seem to set a precise “in” point for a batch capture. In the log and capture window I will set the “in” point and the “out” point and then hit log clip. The uncaptured clip sets in the bin, but the “in” point always defaults to the last frame of the previous capture. Is this a preferences thing? Thanks for your help.

June 2, 2005 at 6:41 pm[Todd Carter] ” the “in” point always defaults to the last frame of the previous capture.”
I’ve never had this happen to me.
First thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.
Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”Click the following link for instructions on how to do this.

Another method is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP & FCE.Download these free Apple Scripts at

June 2, 2005 at 7:15 pmWhen I log a clip, I park the tape where I want the in point, mark IN, then scroll to where I want the out point, and mark OUT. Then log the clip. The clip will have the IN point and Out point that I set. Then, the IN point in the batch capture window will default to the frame my last out point. Unless I tell it different, that will be the IN point.
Is that what you are saying? Or are you saying that no matter what manual IN point you set, when you log the clip it reverts to the last frame of the previous logged clip?

June 2, 2005 at 7:25 pmthat’s what i’m saying. No matter what manual “in” point I set, it defaults back. I’m wondering if i’m not setting it correctly? Under the marker option, I select the left button and hit update. It seems to reset the in point there… yet no matter what point that is- it defaults back? thanks.

June 2, 2005 at 7:58 pmOK, you are in Log & Capture. You shuttle the tape to you want to start capturing. You set an “In” point. I usually just hit the “I” key. You then shuttle to the point where you want to stop capturing and set an “Out” point. I hit the “O” key. Then log the clip for batch capture later or just hit the “clip” button to start the capture process for that particular clip.
Never had any problems doing it this way. Hmmm…
I’m not sure what you’re trying to do with the markers…

June 2, 2005 at 9:54 pmI’d still trash those prefs though.
