new to FCP
Posted by Jack Entonces on June 2, 2005 at 1:05 pmI’ve used Avid for nearly 10 years. Now I got a new job that uses FCP systems.
Can anyone recommend a quick way to learn the basics of FCP?No offence to all you professional FCP editors,
I am aware it takes years to master. I just want a
quick simple way to learn the basics, so I can know how to cut a
simple piece in FCP, thank you.Mrvideo replied 20 years, 11 months ago 6 Members · 5 Replies -

June 2, 2005 at 1:23 pmThere are a number of good books out there. I’d be tempted to recommend my own https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1578202272/qid%3D1063885230/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/002-9997818-1372823 It’s less of a tome than some others. If you need more graphics, effects and animation techniques Kevin Monahan’s book is very good https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0321179153/qid=1074608901/sr=1-18/ref=sr_1_18/102-2328095-6503332?v=glance&s=books
All the best,
Tom

June 2, 2005 at 2:46 pmYou may also want to look at Diana Weynand’s book, “Final Cut Pro for Avid editors”.
Using screen grabs from both an AVid and and FCP, she makes direct comparisons between what you know (AVID) and what you’re trying to learn (FCP). We used this book and actually Diana herself to help transition over 45 veteran Avid editors over to FCP. Don’t expect to be up to speed overnight… it’s gonna take a few weeks before you’re comfortable on this new platform.

June 2, 2005 at 3:43 pmThere is a PeachpitPress Book for you. Final Cut Pro for AVID editors. It takes you thorugh the very basics and relates every operation to AVIDs terms.
You are an experienced editor, so you just need to learn a new tool. Having used both, you will learn to love the freedom FCP brings to editing.
